The Rooms She Built for Us
Share
I wasn't planning to write about Mother's Day.
Not because it isn't important, but because it's more complicated than any card can hold. For some of us, this day is full of warmth. For others, it carries an ache. And for many, it's both at the same time.
What I do know is this: most of us have someone who made a room feel safe. Who knew which drawer had the good scissors. Who knew the afternoon light hit the kitchen counter at a certain hour and that's where the cutting board goes. Who put candles on the table on ordinary evenings, not because anyone was coming over, but because some days are long and candles make them shorter.
Maybe that person was your mother. Maybe it was a grandmother, an aunt, a sister, a friend. Maybe it's you, doing that quietly for the people in your life right now. Maybe you're missing the one who did it for you.
This post is for all of you.
I think about this constantly when I'm selecting pieces for this store. I'll run my hand across a surface and feel the grain of the wood and think about a woman arranging her nightstand just so. Or I'll see a lamp and imagine it next to a reading chair in the corner with the best light in the house, because someone spent an afternoon moving it from spot to spot until it was right.
She never called it decorating. She called it making things nice.
That's what I think gifts this time of year should feel like. Not a grand gesture that sits on a shelf collecting dust. Something that becomes part of someone's daily life. The throw she reaches for on Sunday mornings. The champagne flute she pulls out when good news arrives. The end table that finally fits that odd corner she's been ignoring for years.
Here are a few things I'd choose for any woman who has ever made a room feel like home:
The Colette Desk — because every woman deserves a space that's entirely hers. Fluted legs, brass hardware, finished on all sides so she can put it anywhere. It's the kind of desk that makes you want to sit down and stay a while.
Couture Dreams Bedding — her bedroom should feel like a retreat, not an afterthought. These bundles are soft in a way that surprises you. The kind of soft that makes you cancel your morning plans.
Sprezz Champagne Flutes — hand-blown, colorful, and completely impractical in the best way. They turn a glass of sparkling water into an event.
The Chloe End Table — gold leaf, scalloped iron, and a glass top that catches the light. Small enough to tuck anywhere, beautiful enough to stop you mid-sentence.
Our Faux Botanicals — fresh flowers every week sounds lovely until you're the one keeping them alive. These stay beautiful without any fussing. No watering, no wilting, and honestly, guests can't tell the difference.
Through May 10, we're offering 15% off select pieces from our Mother's Day collection. Add to your cart and the discount applies automatically.
But forget the sale for a second. Think about the woman in your life who makes things nice. Think about the room she spends the most time in. Now think about what's missing, or what she's been living with even though it's not quite right. That's your gift.
And if that woman is you, this is your permission to choose something beautiful for yourself. You've spent enough time making rooms feel right for everyone else.
À bientôt, Kristine
